Lexus Kicks Off Sponsorship of the National Schools Rugby Tournament

04 November 2011

Lexus has a proud record of supporting rugby and this year it goes to the grass roots of the sport with its inaugural sponsorship of the National Schools Rugby Tournament.

The annual competition, established in 1996, promotes skills and sportsmanship among young players through a friendly but hard-fought competition. The 2011/2012 tournament will bring together around 3,000 players aged between eight and 13 in 120 teams from 80 schools.

The Lexus National Schools Rugby Tournament will feature four regional festivals, in Warwick, Reigate, Richmond and Epsom, from which the top teams will progress to the competition finals at Epsom College on 4 March next year. The action begins on November 13 at Warwick School for teams from the North and Midlands.

Lexus will be a highly visible and active sponsor, including support for a competition with prizes that include the chance for one school to win a training day with former England and Saracens star Richard Hill.

Tim Button, Event Director, welcomed the new sponsorship: “Lexus has long been an advocate of such social enhancement through sporting opportunities and we are excited to be commencing the first rounds of the tournament with its generous support.

“Over 17 years the event has provided tens of thousands of children with the opportunity to play rugby in a friendly, competitive, exciting, yet safe environment. Many have since carved careers in the professional game, but equally many go on to play to other levels, continuing to enjoy the genuine camaraderie the game engenders.”

Richard Balshaw, Lexus Director, said: “The Lexus National Schools Rugby Tournament represents all that is best about the sport and is an excellent way of encouraging and developing the skills of young people. It gives us an excellent opportunity to support the endeavours of these young players and also a great arena in which we can promote our businesses and our vehicles.”

Lexus honoured as Auto Express Manufacturer of the Decade

01 September 2011

Awards come and awards go, but the latest addition to Lexus’s packed trophy cabinet represents a more enduring success for the luxury brand: it has been named Auto Express Manufacturer of the Decade. The award recognises the fact that Lexus has achieved the highest average satisfaction rating of any car maker over the past 10 years – 88.3 per cent – based on more than 300,000 responses from motorists to Auto Express’s annual Driver Power survey.

During the past 10 years, Lexus has won the magazine’s Manufacturer of the Year award seven times, and its centre network has been named the nation’s best every single year. This unprecedented achievement reflects the high approval of Lexus customers for the quality of their vehicles – both new and used – and the service they receive.

This period has seen Lexus take a lead in the premium market with hybrid power and it is a mark of its success in bringing the technology to the mainstream that the second-generation RX crossover – the vehicle with which it launched its hybrid programme – takes third place among Auto Express’s Cars of the Decade.

Graham Hope, Auto Express Deputy Editor, said: “This award, based on the responses of more than 300,000 Auto Express readers over 10 years, shows how much Lexus owners love their cars.

“Their supreme comfort and great build quality are regularly praised, and this is backed up by aftersales service which is unmatched in the industry. Lexus is a thoroughly deserving winner of our Manufacturer of the Decade award, and will no doubt continue its success in the years ahead.”

Jon Williams, Toyota GB Managing Director, said: “It is a great honour to receive this award, particularly as Lexus was only introduced into the UK market in 1990.

Positioning the Lexus brand as number one for customer service was our aim and maintaining this for a decade proves the commitment of each and every individual in the Lexus network.”
